Tuesday 23 June was the second day of Sarah’s trial at the Old Bailey. Again, supporters kept up a strong presence outside the court, despite both the stifling heat and repeated petty harassment from the police and officials from the City of London Corporation.
Inside court the prosecution finished presenting its evidence, which included CCTV footage and the video of Sarah’s speech which had been shared online by Zionists leading to her arrest, along with a series of private messages exchanged with comrades, which the police had obtained from her phone. This was followed by the cross-examination of the leading police officer in the case, who appeared to struggle to answer difficult questions about the evidence and procedure.
The prosecution then concluded, and Sarah began to give evidence in her defence case. She will continue doing so tomorrow afternoon.
Today’s protest heard a range of speakers focussing on the topic of state repression. There were also two educational sessions, one about the way the British state is systematically destroying working class people’s access to social housing, the other about the grim history of the Old Bailey site, and Newgate Gaol which previously stood where the current court-house is located.
Join us on Wednesday at the Old Bailey from 1pm to continue to support Sarah and defend our right to defend Palestine!
