The Revolutionary Communist Group – for an anti-imperialist movement in Britain

London protest against environmental destruction

Earth Strike protesters carry a large green banner which fills the street reading 'Capitalism is the enemy of mother Earth, multinational corporations are its warlords'

On Saturday 5 June an Earth Strike North of the River march started in Trafalgar Square and took to the streets with a huge banner, ‘Capitalism is the enemy of mother earth: multinational corporations are its warlords’. London branches of Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! were continuing the campaign against the giant multinational corporations that have their headquarters in our city. From here monopolies operate across the globe directing the plunder of the earth’s resources and exploiting the exploiting environment and people in the endless accumulation of profit. Since 2020 Earth Strike North of the River and comrades from London RCG have targeted Glencore, the mining corporation, Unilever, the consumer goods monopoly and Black Rock, the hedge fund and arms trader.

The large, lively and angry group of protestors applauded speeches outside of the Brazilian Embassy, Antofagasta the Chilean copper mining company then onto the headquarters of Rio Tinto, the mining corporation with a history of crimes against people and the environment from Australia to Bolivia. International solidarity against imperialist exploitation and corporate capitalist greed united the demonstration which was supported by; Papua Militant International, London Mining Network, Brazil Matters, Global Justice Bloc, Women of Colour / Global Women’s Strike and Amazon Rebellion. Earth Strike UK travelled up from Bristol to support. Representatives from local XR groups – XR Islington and Hackney joined us.  Messages of support were received from the Wurundjeri and Boon Warrung people from an Aboriginal Community in Australia, directly fighting against Rio Tinto and other mining companies. There were also banners and a photographer representing the Mauri community from New Zealand.
