The defence case concludes in Sarah’s trial

Thursday 25 June was the fourth day of Sarah’s trial at the Old Bailey. We are nearing the conclusion of this crucial case in which what is at stake is the democratic right of those who support the struggle of the Palestinian people to voice that support.

Today Sarah concluded her evidence to the court. She faced fierce questioning from the prosecution barrister, but stood firm in her support for the right of Palestinians to resist occupation by all available means, affirming that declaring this right here in Britain is no crime. We then heard from a series of character witnesses, including professors, employers and family, all of whom reiterated Sarah’s good character, integrity and honesty. Tomorrow the court will hear the closing statements from the prosecution and the defence, before the judge sends the jury out to deliberate on its verdict.

Outside the court, activists again endured the brutal summer heat to support Sarah. The protest heard from various speakers, including Asim Qureshi of CAGE International, who have supported the SOAS 2 from the outset.  We also had a pavement letter writing session at which participants wrote solidarity cards to be sent to the Filton 4, Brize Norton 6, Keysight 3 and other imprisoned activists.

Tomorrow, we will be holding a joint protest with the supporters of the eight members of the Filton 25 whose trial is also ongoing in the Central Criminal Court.
