22 June was the first day of Sarah’s trial at the Old Bailey – the beginning of a landmark case for our democratic rights and our right to protest for Palestine and to defend the Palestinian resistance.
The Defend the SOAS 2 Campaign arrived at 9:30 AM to protest outside the court, with chants being heard by those inside, including Sarah but also the defendants in the Filton 8 trial. Speakers from the SOAS Liberated Zone, the Spartacist League, the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party, Focus E-15, IJAN, Irish Brigade for Palestine, Stop Funding Genocide EU, Movement for Justice, Youth Equality Coalition and the Filton 25 defence campaign all spoke in solidarity with the SOAS 2 and against political repression.
In the court, the jury was selected and sworn in, and the prosecution made their opening statements. This was followed by presenting evidence, which will continue on Tuesday 23 June.
