State declines to prosecute one of SOAS 2

The police have announced that one member of the SOAS 2, who had potential charges pending under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act, will face no further action.

This means the CPS have found no grounds to prosecute him in relation to expressing support for the Palestinian liberation struggle, and the internationally recognised right of an occupied people to resist oppression, including through armed struggle.

This is a victory for the uncompromising campaign waged by the SOAS 2 and their supporters against the criminalisation of speaking out in support of Palestine. But the other member of the SOAS 2 continues to face the same charge and will be on trial at the Old Bailey from Monday 22 June.

We urge everyone who believes that defending Palestine is not a crime and understands that the Terrorism Act 2000 is a weapon used to criminalise solidarity with liberation struggles everywhere, to turn up outside the Old Bailey every day from 22 June at 9.30am and demand that the charges against Sarah be dropped. None of us are free until all of us are free – and this victory shows that when we fight, we win.
