On Saturday 4 September 2021 the Revolutionary Communist Group gave a powerful speech from the main platform at the Extinction Rebellion ‘March for Nature’ in Trafalgar Square, calling for an anti-imperialist and socialist response to the climate crisis. While giving other speakers over 10 minutes to address the crowd, XR organisers started shouting over our speaker and telling her to ‘wrap it up’ in an attempt to to censor revolutionary politics.
As our speaker says: ‘We have reached a point of revolution or ruin, as Marx foretold. Only a mass, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, socialist movement outside the confines of the parliamentary parties can challenge climate change and environmental destruction. Anything less will simply be green imperialism at the expense of the world’s poor. We do not have time to wait.’
