13 August 2026 marks 100 years since the birth of Fidel Castro Ruz, Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution, and almost 10 years since his death. Fidel is remembered and celebrated as a national hero for Cuba and a champion for the international proletariat: for his leadership in the Cuban revolution, his commitment to internationalism, his steadfast defence of socialism and his unwavering solidarity with the struggle of the oppressed against the oppressor. To remember Fidel is to remember the example of a great revolutionary leader who showed us that another world is possible. That world is socialist.
