Members of the Revolutionary Communist Group and Rock around the Blockade handed over bags of material aid to the Calixto García hospital in Havana. FRFI readers and supporters raised over £3,700, funding catheters, oxygen masks, syringes, cannulas and other essential medicines requested by hospital staff and desperately needed under the strain of the US blockade.
This was the RCG’s second delegation to Cuba in 2026 bringing material aid, after joining the Nuestra America convoy in March. On both delegations, FRFI witnessed Cuba’s socialist healthcare system, rooted in solidarity, that trains doctors and sends medical brigades across the world. A doctor at the hospital spoke about how the blockade continues to stop shipments of basic medical supplies, even as Cuba marks the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth.
Cuba’s only ‘crime’ is building socialism. For 65 years the US has tried to economically strangle the revolution and has failed. Socialist Cuba stands strong and still guarantees free education, free health-care and housing for all.
There is one struggle and one fight against imperialism, the system that strangles Cuba and plunders all oppressed nations of the world. Every supply sent is a small act of defiance against the blockade and a statement that the working class in Britain stands with revolutionary Cuba.
Thank you to everyone who contributed.
