Fighting racism: the state and the streets (2026)

This pamphlet explains that imperialism forms the material basis of racism in Britain and that racism is the form national oppression takes within Britain. It shows that for the fight against racism to be effective, it must inevitably confront British imperialism and therefore the British state. This pamphlet also exposes a fake anti-racist trend represented today by not only SUTR but also black middle class ‘community leaders’. They promote the illusion that British imperialism can be reformed and they strip anti-racism of its class character to ensure it never seriously challenges the racist British state. In contrast, we make the case that imperialism is an inherently racist system that cannot be reformed – only socialism can create the conditions to end racism and it must be fought for by a revolutionary working class movement on the streets.

The pamphlet also demonstrates how the RCG has historically put this theory into practice. For over 50 years the RCG has analysed the relationship between imperialism and racism, and developed this understanding in our publications. Throughout this period, we have been active in campaigns which we have either initiated or joined to fight against all aspects of state racism – from struggles against detention and deportation to the fight against police brutality, false imprisonment and state sanctioned racist murder.
