On 3 July FRFI supporters joined the Committee to Defend Julian Assange outside Belmarsh high security prison to mark Assange’s 50th birthday and protest against his continued incarceration. In January 2021 the British courts ruled that Assange should not be extradited to the US on espionage charges; yet rather than be released he remains in prison while President Joe Biden’s government formulates a planned appeal against the earlier decision.
