On Saturday 28 March Palestine Action Group (PAG) and local supporters of Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! (FRFI) picketed Marks & Spencer in Newcastle city centre in solidarity with Palestinian resistance and against British support for apartheid Israel. M&S is Britain’s biggest corporate sponsor of the Zionist settler-state and a company that supports the occupation and colonisation of Palestine ideologically as well as economically. Their economic support alone amounts to an estimated £250m worth of trade each year.
Megaphone speeches, literature and visual displays on the picket publicised the upcoming Palestinian Land Day (30 March) – a celebration of anti-colonial resistance in Palestine commemorating the historic general strike and mass mobilisations against Israeli land theft that took place on 30 March 1976 and the infamous Zionist repression that followed; leaving six dead, many more injured and hundreds taken prisoner in mass arrests.
Today, the Palestinian people continue to resist, and we will continue to take action against British government, business and banking support for the racist, Israeli apartheid state.
End British support for Israel!
Victory to the Palestinian people!
Palestine Action Group was set up with FRFI supporters and other people wanting to take action in solidarity with Palestine.
