Fight the racist Nationality and Borders Act – Newcastle protest

Newcastle FRFI protest against the Nationality and Borders Bill

On Saturday 7th May 2022, Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! Northeast and supporters rallied at the Home Office in Newcastle city centre to protest against the racist Nationality and Borders Act recently passed by parliament. This was followed by a vibrant anti-racist street art gallery at Grey’s Monument.

In an imperialist country such as Britain, all immigration controls are inherently racist. The street art created by supporters illustrated this: Britain’s parasitic relationship with the rest of the world, waging wars and bombing campaigns, plundering resources and exploiting workers in other countries as a cheap source of labour. Britain does this while locking up refugees who dare to flee from these conditions.

The gallery included a “Map of British Imperialism” revealing Britain’s extractive industries and military interventions around the world, a timeline of Britain’s history of racist immigration laws and images of resistance. Hundreds of people passing-by stopped to walk around the gallery and to listen to speeches.

The Nationality and Borders Act is another brick in the wall Britain has created to criminalise migrants making it nearly impossible for people to seek asylum here.
