PFLP: oppose British collaboration in war on Iran

As the Islamic Republic of Iran exercises its right to self-defence against the joint Israeli-US onslaught and targets Gulf countries hosting US military bases, it has also launched drones against the RAF Akrotiri airbase in Cyprus, rightly regarding Britain as a key ally of the US. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine has issued the statement we reproduce below, making clear the responsibilities for progressive forces in Britain to oppose British collaboration.

PFLP: British involvement in the war on Iran is direct collaboration; We call on progressive forces in Britain to confront Starmer’s colonialist practices

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine condemns British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s announcement of the use of British bases and air participation in the war on Iran. It considers this an explicit admission that Britain has moved from a position of indirect political and military support to one of full partnership in the aggression, thus making the British government a direct party to it.

The use of British bases to serve the objectives of this war of aggression recalls Britain’s traditional colonial role and exposes the falsity of claims that these actions fall within the framework of “defence.” According to this decision, British bases have been transformed into platforms for supporting military operations and providing them with logistical and political cover.

The PFLP calls on all forces in Britain who stand on the side of freedom and oppose to the war to escalate popular and legal pressure on the Starmer government to halt this military involvement and hold those responsible accountable. It also urges action to pressure for a change in British policy that ensures an end to its complicity in the Zionist and US war of extermination against the peoples of the region, and prevents it from being drawn into policies of escalation and war.
