In August, a leaked plan detailing US imperialism’s plans for a future Gaza was published by the Washington Post. The Gaza Reconstitution, Economic Acceleration and Transformation (GREAT) Trust closely mirrors President Trump’s repeated comments about creating a ‘Riviera’ on a Gaza ruthlessly depopulated of Palestinians, with all public land taken into a development trust whose assets would be sold off to private investors. The plans value Gaza today at $0 and $324bn in ten years’ time. The project’s slides show gleaming skyscrapers dominating the skyline, with plans for high-tech megacities powered by AI, a deep water port, a land trust to facilitate the theft of land, and projections on how much investment capital would be saved for every Palestinian who ‘chooses’ to leave Gaza. It proposes bringing Gaza into the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) creating a challenge China’s Belt and Road Initiative and providing Europe with an alternative to Russian pipelines. US imperialism is not shy about the bounty it expects. The report states: ‘US Strategic Benefits: Massive $ gains, accelerate IMEC, solidify the Abrahamic regional architecture, strengthen hold in the east Mediterranean, and secure US-industry access to $1.3 trillion of rare-earth minerals from the Gulf.’
It has drawn gleeful support from Zionism’s genocidal politicians, with the far-right finance minister Bezalel Smotrich gloating: ‘We paid a lot of money for this war so we need to decide how we make a percentage on the land marketing later in Gaza…we’ve done the demolition phase which is always the first phase of urban renewal.’
This grotesque publication was drawn up by Israeli businessmen involved in the creation of the US-Israeli Gaza Humanitarian Foundation with support from consultants at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). There was also input from staff working for the Tony Blair Institute, set up by the former warmongering British Labour prime minister.
Blair notoriously took Britain into a bloody and illegal war in Iraq in 2003 before becoming Middle Peace Envoy for the Quartet of International Powers. Knighted for his efforts on behalf of imperialism in 2022, he has now emerged as a key player in the search for a US-backed plan for Gaza’s future. For months he has been involved in discussions which have included Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, the US Middle East ‘Peace’ Envoy who’s previously spoken admiringly of Gaza’s ‘valuable waterfront property’ and suggested the Palestinian population be relocated to the Negev desert, and US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff. On 27 August all were involved in a meeting at the White House with President Trump to discuss Gaza’s future, shortly before the GREAT plans were leaked.
Now this blood-soaked criminal and arch-Zionist is in discussions to be named as head of a US-backed body named the Gaza International Transitional Authority. It would seek a UN mandate to be Gaza’s ‘supreme political and legal authority’ for five years. The imperialist powers, huge corporations and Zionist businessmen are vying to carve up the devastated territory in the most profitable way.
